Responsibilities

• Horse Care & Welfare: Develop and oversee daily feeding, nutrition and exercise programs.
• Co-ordinate routine healthcare, vaccinations, deworming, dental and farrier visits.
• Monitor for injury and illness and provide basic first aid and co-ordinate veterinary assistance as required.
• Manage breeding schedules, mare monitoring, artificial insemination, foaling watch and neonatal care.
• Manage external bookings and timing for thoroughbred mares, including transport and agistment.

Job Description

The farm manager oversees the daily operation of the farm, including staff supervision, horse health care, farm maintenance and business administration.
The role requires good horse husbandry expertise focussed on the welfare and condition of horses, combined with management skills to optimise financial performance.

Job Responsibilities

Horse Care & Welfare.

• Develop and oversee daily feeding, nutrition and exercise programs.
• Co ordinate routine healthcare, vaccinations, deworming, dental and farrier visits.
• Monitor for injury and illness and provide basic first aid and co-ordinate veterinary assistance as required.
• Manage breeding schedules, mare monitoring, artificial insemination, foaling watch and neonatal care.
• Manage external bookings and timing for thoroughbred mares, including transport and agistment.

Yearling Sales Prep.

• Train and prepare yearlings for sales
• Co ordinate photography, videos, publicity, viewing and promotion of sale yearlings.
• Co ordinate health checks including X rays and scoping as required for yearling sales.
• Co ordinate and attend yearling sales.

Staff Management & Leadership.

• Recruit, train and schedule staff as required.
• Establish performance standards, conduct regular reviews, and foster a safe working environment.
• Reports include 1 full time and up to 4 casuals as required.

Property Maintenance.

• Oversee and upkeep of stables, arena, fencing and paddocks.
• Minimise fire risk with appropriate grass cutting, fuel reduction and fire fighting provisions.
• Maintain house and surrounds in a good tidy condition, and carry out repairs as required.

Property Development.

• Oversee pre-approved pasture and physical facilities development.

Commercial breeder of standardbreds and thoroughbreds, selling yearlings through Melbourne and Sydney yearling sales. Running 30 broodmares plus weanlings, and spelling race horses.
