Yerrabi Yurwang means to ‘walk strong’ and was bestowed upon the organisation by our esteemed and respected Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Agnes Shea OAM, who was also a Founding Board Member and our Inaugural Patron. Yerrabi Yurwang operates in the Northwest of the Australian Capital Territory, part of the traditional lands of the Ngunnawal People. Yerrabi Yurwang is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO), which means it is owned and operated by Aboriginal People, for Aboriginal People, and is committed to the principle of self-determination whereby we engage and empower Aboriginal People and their Families who utilise Yerrabi Yurwang’s services and programs.
This role also requires the successful applicant to obtain a Community Agency Employee Consent (CAEC) assessment for clearance as per ACT Childcare Youth & Families - Health & Community Services Directorate, guidelines and requirements. CAEC requirements are – completion of application and provision of current WWVP; current National Police Check; current Driver’s License; current Drivers history and 10 years residential address history.
Yerrabi Yurwang Child is recruiting for a Family Practitioner, Domestic Family & Sexual Violence (DFSV) to provide case management to Woman and Children who are or at risk of homeless due to experiencing DFSV in collaboration with Yerrabi Yurwang programs, key partners and other services within the community. This program will also provide trauma-informed, family-centred case management and outreach support to women and children residing in crisis and transitional accommodation homes. The role focuses on safety, recovery, and empowerment through integrated service delivery, cultural safety, and strong partnerships with specialist agencies. In partnership with DFSV and Cultural specialists the role will offer wholistic case management services to woman, children and significant loved ones to address their housing insecurity due to DFSV through crisis and transitional housing supports, trauma-informed and family focused case management planning. As Family Practitioner you will hold a caseload of approximately 10-12 families, with consideration given to the complexity and acuity of needs. support.
The purpose of the role is working and collaborating through appropriate partnerships to undertake comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning to reduce harm and prevent future violence, while delivering trauma-informed, culturally aware practice that supports clients' connection to family, community and culture. It works with individuals and families experiencing complex needs, including engagement across legal, housing, and child protection systems, and maintains strong working knowledge of the ACT Domestic and Family Violence service system and referral pathways to ensure coordinated, effective support.
