Job summary

Bamara in Cairns, QLD, seeks an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander facilitator to deliver Career Transition Assistance (CTA) and non-vocational training to participants referred to the courses.

You will foster a culturally safe learning environment, support students to reach their goals, and travel to other Bamara sites in Cairns as required.

Qualifications

  • Identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
  • A good understanding and knowledge of the local Indigenous culture and community.
  • Previous experience delivering or co-facilitating wellbeing, cultural, or mental health training is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with clients and other professionals from diverse cultures.
  • Ability to work within a diverse team environment.
  • Sound administrative skills, attention to detail and commitment to task completion.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
  • Team player but able to work autonomously.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills and time management.
  • High Level verbal and written communication skills.
  • IT skills including working experience using Microsoft Office Suite ability to use Chrome books.
  • Strategic thinker. Able to provide strategic advice, develop options, analyze risks, make good judgements, and solve problems.
  • Must pass and have a current Police Check (ongoing requirement for employment).
  • Must pass and have a current Working with Children Check and/or Vulnerable Persons Check (ongoing requirement for employment).
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or equivalent) - desirable

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate group sessions in person and online.
  • Utilise the pre-built course material to facilitate digital literacy and job searching skills for participants.
  • Assist students with understanding and comprehending course materials.
  • Assist with identifying local career opportunities and goals for students.
  • Ensure students are on track and progressing through their course work.
  • Assist students and provide a tailored way of explaining course material.
  • Assist students on boarding their course.
  • Upload and maintain documents and files required for course commencement and completion.
  • Ensure that devices and course material are in working order prior to course commencement.
  • Set up and pack up training area daily.
  • Conduct provider engagement to drive referrals.

Job Description

The facilitator will deliver a mixture of Career Transition Assistance (CTA) and non-vocational trainingto participants referred to the courses, fostering a culturally safe and supportive learning environment that empowers participants to reach their goals. This position is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants in recognition of the importance of cultural knowledge, lived experience, and connection to community in supporting Bamara to deliver culturally responsive education and training programs. This is an identified role under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role.

This role may require travel to other Bamara sites in Cairns.
