About the opportunity You will be paid while you train at FutureFit Academy and become a qualified tradesperson at BHP. These are permanent opportunities, and once successfully completing your studies, you will continue your employment with BHP based at one of our mine sites.

As a Fabrication Apprentice, you will learn in the classroom and practise your skills in a workshop. You will learn how to read technical drawings, measure and mark metal, cut and shape metal, and join metal parts to make or repair equipment and structures. You will learn to use tools and equipment such as welders, grinders, drills and oxy-acetylene torches. This is practical, hands on work. At times, the workshop may be hot, noisy and physically demanding. The work can involve heat, sparks, bright welding light, hot metal and welding fumes. You will need to follow safety procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include protective clothing, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, a welding helmet and respiratory protection where required.
