AGL Loy Yang invites school leavers to join a 1st Year Fabrication Apprentice program, the first step toward becoming a qualified boilermaker. You’ll learn metal fabrication, welding and technical drawing interpretation while contributing to essential infrastructure powering homes and industries.

The program includes a nationally recognised Trade Qualification, on‑the‑job and TAFE training, and rotations across Loy Yang A Power Station and Loy Yang Coal Mine, with strong safety and inclusion

Qualifications

  • Completion of Year 11 or equivalent by end of 2026.
  • Cert II related to the trade is highly desirable, however not essential.
  • Demonstrated interest in your nominated trade.
  • Strong commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

  • Learn fabrication processes and apply welding, cutting and interpretation of technical drawings.
  • Support installation, maintenance, and repair of boilers, ducting and structural supports.
  • Rotate through Loy Yang A Power Station and Loy Yang Coal Mine as part of a structured program.

About the role
Join AGL Loy Yang for the 2027 Fabrication Apprenticeships

Are you a school leaver who wants a career using your hands? Or have you been out in the workforce and tried other roles or industries and it hasn't felt right? If so, this could be the sign you need to start your new career with AGL as a 1st Year Fabrication Apprentice -the first step toward becoming a qualified boilermaker. As a boilermaker, you'll learn to work with metal to fabricate, install, and repair critical infrastructure like boilers, pressure vessels, ducting, and structural supports. You'll master advanced skills in welding, thermal cutting, and interpreting complex technical drawings-All this while contributing to critical infrastructure that powers homes, industries, and entire communities.

At AGL Loy Yang in the Latrobe Valley of Victoria, we are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as Fabrication Apprentices. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised Trade Qualification in a supportive and team-oriented environment.

To be successful, you'll need:
  • Completion of Year 11 or equivalent by the end of 2026
  • Cert II related to the trade is highly desirable, however not essential.

  • Strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to travel to and from worksite.
  • Available to commence Apprenticeship in January 2027
Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will undergo aptitude testing and a full medical as part of the selection process.
