Job summary

Department of Transport and Planning seeks an External Works Engineer to provide expert advice on road and bridge designs for third-party works in Gippsland. You will independently review and endorse development-related designs, oversee construction outcomes and finalise asset handovers in the arterial network.

You will coordinate design reviews, monitor progress, manage risks, guide surveillance staff, resolve issues and ensure compliance with safety and permit requirements while contributing

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering or Project Management (mandatory).
• 5+ years’ experience in construction or project management with road design review experience.
• 5+ years’ experience in road construction, including traffic management.

Responsibilities

• Undertake and coordinate design reviews for arterial road projects.
• Monitor project progress and manage construction risks.
• Guide surveillance staff and resolve construction issues.
• Ensure third parties and contractors meet safety, permit and technical requirements.
• Support continuous improvement and promote safe, flexible team operations.
