Job summary

UGL Pty Limited is seeking Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians to support maintenance across fuel terminals, bulk storage and refining assets. You will work on preventative and corrective tasks, calibrate instruments, and troubleshoot control systems in live facilities.

The role offers exposure to integration across asset lifecycles, with safety-focused operations and opportunities for training and career progression within a leading engineering and infrastructure company.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualified Electrician, Instrumentation Technician, or dual-trade Electrical & Instrumentation Technician.
  • Experience in fuel terminals, bulk storage, oil & gas, petrochemical or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation, process control systems, electrical equipment and hazardous area installations.
  • Experience with calibration, fault-finding, maintenance and commissioning of field instrumentation and control systems.
  • Understanding of permit-to-work, electrical isolations, EEHA and safety practices in high-risk facilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication and problem-solving skills, working independently and in teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on electrical, instrumentation and control systems at terminals and bulk storage facilities.
  • Install, calibrate, test and troubleshoot instrumentation including flow meters and sensors.
  • Maintain and repair electrical assets such as motors, switchgear and power distribution infrastructure.
  • Diagnose faults and support PLC, SCADA and terminal automation for reliable plant performance.
  • Execute maintenance activities in accordance with permit-to-work and safety standards in live environments.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering and maintenance teams to improve asset reliability and uptime.

As our Fuels & Energy East business continues to grow, we are inviting Expressions of Interest from Electrical & Instrumentation Technicians interested in expanding their experience across the bulk storage, fuels, refining and terminal infrastructure sectors. This is an opportunity to become part of a highly experienced team delivering solutions for some of Australia's most critical assets. You will gain exposure to a diverse portfolio of fuel terminals, storage facilities, refining infrastructure, brownfield modifications, asset integrity programs, capital projects and operational support activities. You'll work alongside industry experts and develop valuable experience across the full asset lifecycle, from concept and design through to procurement, construction and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance on electrical, instrumentation and control systems across fuel terminals, bulk storage facilities and associated infrastructure.
  • Install, calibrate, test and troubleshoot instrumentation including flow meters, pressure transmitters, level instruments, temperature sensors and process control equipment.
  • Maintain and repair electrical assets including motors, switchgear, MCCs, lighting systems, hazardous area equipment and power distribution infrastructure.
  • Diagnose faults and support the operation of PLC, SCADA and terminal automation systems to ensure reliable and safe facility performance.
  • Execute maintenance activities in accordance with permit-to-work systems, isolation procedures, safety standards and regulatory requirements within live operational environments.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering and maintenance teams to improve asset reliability, minimise downtime and support shutdowns, upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you
  • Trade qualified Electrician, Instrumentation Technician, or dual-trade Electrical & Instrumentation Technician.
  • Demonstrated experience working within fuel terminals, bulk storage, oil & gas, petrochemical, energy, utilities or other heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation, process control systems, electrical distribution equipment, motors, switchgear and hazardous area installations.
  • Experience with calibration, fault finding, maintenance and commissioning of field instrumentation and control systems.
  • Sound understanding of permit-to-work systems, electrical isolations, EEHA requirements and safety practices within high-risk operational facilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary maintenance teams.
