Flying Bark Productions in Sydney is seeking a skilled 2D Animator for upcoming 2D projects with major partners. This Expression of Interest lets you register your portfolio and availability so we can move quickly when roles open in 2027.

Remote or hybrid work options are available, with Sydney hours for reviews. You should have strong character animation, lip-sync, key posing, and a solid understanding of Toon Boom Harmony in a production setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Produce frame-by-frame or rigged animation for programs to meet creative standards.
• Meet quota as briefed by the production crew and adhere to workflow.
• Complete revisions as requested by supervisory leads and maintain timing charts.
• Communicate clearly within the team and keep workflow tools updated.
• Maintain confidentiality and adapt to changes in the project.

Job description

Flying Bark Productions is a dynamic and innovative animation studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of character animation and storytelling. We have a number of exciting productions underway, including a new 2D project with Disney, Netflix's Ghostbusters animated series and Stranger Things animated series, as well as an upcoming feature film, Zac Power.

We've got an exciting slate of upcoming 2D projects moving into production early 2027. If you're a 2D Animator looking for your next show, we'd love to see your work!

This is an Expression of Interest - these roles won't officially open until later this year or early 2027, but we're scouting talent now so we can move quickly once schedules are confirmed. Registering doesn't commit you to anything; it just means we already have your portfolio and availability on hand when a role opens up.

Role Requirements:

• To produce frame-by-frame or rigged animation for the Program/s that fulfils the creative standards of the project as advised by the Animation Director and Animation Supervisor/s;
• Meet quota as briefed by the Production crew;
• Completion of creative revisions as requested by the Animation Director and Animation Supervisor/s in addition to the animation quota;
• Adhere to the work flow structure of the project with successful adherence and completion of technical tasks at each animation stage, including but not limited to correct labelling of layers, clean and clear structuring of nodes, and submission of timing charts.
• Work cohesively within a team environment and ensuring high levels of communication at all times;
• Adhere to the administrative tools used for tracking workflow, input and delivery/output of shots;
• Strong communication and ability to work to a verbal or visual brief, flagging in advance any issues that may impact on successful timely delivery of material or shots to Production and the Supervising crew;
• Ensure all work remains confidential per code of conduct and security forms.

About you:

• Good sense of narrative storytelling, comic timing and camera;
• Solid experience with character animation including lip sync and key posing in a 2D animation environment;
• Solid experience and understanding of Toon Boom Harmony in a production based environment;
• Solid knowledge of 2D animation workflows and storyboard interpretation;
• Excellent communication skills and willingness to share information in a team environment;
• Passion for animation and storytelling.
• Ability to create economical and dynamic movement, keeping an eye on continuity and hookups while referencing a storyboard, with a drive to push the performance and energy in every scene;
• Excellent ability to create on-model and clean key frames and tight in-betweens that stay true to the show’s style;
• Good knowledge of current 2D animation techniques;
• Ability to work in a team environment and follow guidance from creative and technical supervisors;
• Ability to maintain a consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work to quota;
• Ability to take and successfully interpret a verbal or visual creative brief;
• Ability to consistently meet deadlines;
• Ability to be adaptable, flexible and responsive to changes;

Where you can be based

While Sydney or Australia based artists are ideal for ease of production, we do have some remote roles available;

• Remote-friendly — open to consider artists anywhere, as long as you can comfortably overlap with some Sydney business hours for reviews and day-to-day collaboration.
• Sydney-based / local artists full time in-studio or hybrid setup.
