Job summary

Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry – Gympie QLD is seeking a Veterinary Officer within the Veterinary and Export Meat Branch (VEMB). The role involves providing expert veterinary and technical advice on public health, food safety and meat quality, while ensuring compliance with the Export Control Act 2020 and MEVS.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary and technical advice on public health, food safety and meat quality.
• Ensure compliance with Export Control Act 2020 and related legislation; MEVS monitoring.
• Maintain veterinary standards and apply best practice in line with Australian/international standards.
• Oversee animal welfare and report outcomes to maintain high standards.
• Conduct or supervise ante‑mortem and post‑mortem inspections per AS 4696:2023 and overseas requirements.
• Contribute to veterinary emergency management and onsite preparedness plans.
• Lead, mentor and develop veterinary and non‑veterinary staff; chair management meetings and report KPIs.
