Job summary

BHP is hiring Experienced Smelter Technicians for Olympic Dam in South Australia. Work on a 7/7 day/night roster with residential, FIFO (from Adelaide) or DIDO options. You will operate smelting and acid plant/feed preparation equipment in a challenging mining environment.

Role focuses on safe, efficient production, quality compliance, and active participation in safety and continuous improvement initiatives. Collaborative team culture and diverse workloads are key features of this role.

Qualifications

• SA C Class driver’s licence is required.
• Forklift, CB Bridge & Gantry Crane and DG Dogging licences are desirable.
• Experience in Smelting or Acid Plant/Feed Preparation is desirable.
• Strong safety awareness and risk management skills.

About the Role

Our Operations - Olympic Dam

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.

Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on a 7/7 day/night roster pattern arrangement with residential, FIFO (from Adelaide) or DIDO options available.

We currently have multiple roles available for a Production Technician to join our Smelting, Casting and Acid Plant / Feed Preparation teams. In this role you will be responsible for safe and efficient operation of Smelter and Acid Plant / Feed Preparation equipment in accordance with operational procedures. This includes working in challenging environments with molten metal and acid operations.

In this role you will:

• Execute production tasks in alignment with the production schedule and operational priorities.
• Proactively identify, report, and address hazards to maintain a safe working environment
• Ensure product quality and compliance with production specifications to meet customer requirements.
• Embrace training opportunities across all equipment and plant areas to support operational flexibility.
• Participate in field leadership activities and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Foster an inclusive and respectful team culture, working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

About You

• Experience working in a similar role with exposure to Smelting or Acid Plant/Feed Preparation operations (desirable)
• Current South Australian C Class driver’s licence (required)
• Forklift licence, CB Bridge & Gantry Crane and DG Dogging licences (desirable)
• A strong understanding of workplace safety practices, including hazard identification and risk management
• Ability to work autonomously, or as part of a team
• A proactive and motivated approach to problem-solving, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
