Job summary

Alliance Geotechnical is seeking an Experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our Sydney team. You will work across a diverse range of geotechnical projects, undertaking investigations, analysis, reporting and construction support with engineers, geologists and environmental specialists.

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology
  • 3–4+ years' experience in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork across Sydney/NSW
  • Familiarity with Australian Standards and geotechnical investigation practices
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, quality and environment

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate field investigations including subcontractor engagement
  • Supervise geotechnical investigations and logging per AS 1726
  • Coordinate laboratory testing programs and interpret results

The Opportunity

We're seeking an Experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Sydney team.

You'll work across a diverse range of geotechnical projects, undertaking investigations, analysis, reporting and construction support. Working closely with engineers, geologists and environmental specialists, you'll contribute to practical solutions from initial site investigation through to project delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and coordinate field investigations, including subcontractor engagement and preparation of documentation to support safe and efficient site operations.
  • Supervise geotechnical investigations, including test pit excavations and borehole drilling, while undertaking soil and rock logging in accordance with AS 1726, sampling and in-situ testing.
  • Coordinate laboratory testing programs and assist with the interpretation of results to support project outcomes.
  • Prepare factual logs, figures and technical reports, contributing to quality reviews and maintaining high technical standards.
  • Assist with geotechnical assessments and provide practical input into foundations, retaining structures, slopes, pavements and earthworks.
  • Build strong relationships with clients and colleagues through clear communication, collaboration and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Work closely with experienced engineers and technical specialists, seeking guidance and support to further develop your skills and expertise.
About You
  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
  • 3-4+ years' experience in a geotechnical engineering or engineering geology role
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork across metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW as required
  • Familiarity with Australian Standards and geotechnical investigation practices, with a strong safety-first mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental standards
  • Excellent communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with the ability to take ownership
  • Tech-savvy and proficient in Microsoft Office and business systems
