Job summary

Northern Sydney Local Health District is seeking an enthusiastic Exercise Physiologist to join our collaborative multidisciplinary team at Royal North Shore Hospital Mental Health Inpatient Unit. You will deliver innovative exercise interventions aimed at promoting recovery and long-term wellbeing, within a hospital setting.

Permanent Part Time position with 20 hours per week, classification Exercise Physiologist Level 1/2.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in exercise science with ESSA accreditation eligibility.
• Evidence-based practice in Exercise Physiology in hospital/community health.
• Experience in physical activity management and rehab for chronic conditions.
• Ability to deliver engaging group therapies including health education and activity.

Responsibilities

• Deliver exercise interventions in the Mental Health Inpatient Unit.
• Support the clinical lead in developing exercise programs.
• Promote physical wellbeing and wellbeing education.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to support patients.

Royal North Shore Hospital-Mental Health Inpatient Unit.

What You'll Be Doing

The Royal North Shore Hospital Mental Health Inpatient Unit is located at Royal North Shore Hospital, with a team of Multidisciplinary team of clinicians including Nurses, Dietitian, Occupational Therapist, Diversional therapist, Clinical Psychologists and Social Workers.

The Royal North Shore Hospital Mental Health Inpatient Unit employs a model of care designed specifically to offer people and their families/carers the opportunity to receive intensive, multi-faceted assessments and care planning commensurate with the level of severity and complexity of illness and risks to safety they may be experiencing.

The position also involves the delivery of health promotion activities and supporting the clinical lead in developing exercise programs and interventions for promoting physical wellbeing.

Candidates Will Need To Meet The Following Criteria

• Tertiary qualifications in an exercise science related field with eligibility for accreditation as an exercise physiologist with (Exercise & Sports Science Australia) ESSA. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional education and development.
• Demonstrated skills in professional clinical practice including the application of evidence based practice in Exercise Physiology in a hospital or community health setting.
• Experience in the physical activity management and rehabilitation of people with a wide variety of chronic and complex conditions. A strong understanding of the relationship between mental illness and poor physical health and how the exercise physiologist can contribute to improved health outcomes.
• Ability to deliver engaging group based therapies including health education, exercise and sport and recreational activities.
