Job summary

The Office of the Director of the Public Prosecutions is seeking a Deputy Director to lead the most serious criminal trials and appeals in South Australia. This is a foundational executive role reporting to the Director and shaping ODPP leadership and strategy.

The Deputy Director will drive change, strengthen relationships with the Courts, SAPOL and other stakeholders, and mentor senior lawyers in a high‑calibre public prosecution environment. Location: Adelaide.

Qualifications

• A barrister or prosecutor eligible for admission in South Australia with extensive criminal law experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct significant criminal cases in the Supreme and District Courts.
• Conduct Appeals in the Court of Appeal and the High Court of Australia.
• Assist the Director with management of the Office as a member of the Executive.
• Act as the Director when required.
• Lead and mentor skilled lawyers within a busy legal professional environment.
• Promote good culture, wellbeing and continuous learning.
• Enhance the ODPP’s relationship with the Courts, SAPOL and other key stakeholders.
