Role Overview

A new role awaits:
The Executive Officer/Office Manager is responsible for the success and effective functioning of the Tax Ombudsman office. The role involves secretariat, operational, financial, human resources, and administrative tasks to ensure smooth operations and providing executive support and advice to the Agency Head.

This is a non-ongoing position for up to 12 months from 1 July 2025, with a possibility of extension. Future similar roles may be filled through an order of merit. This vacancy is open to APS employees only.

Key Duties
  • Oversee daily office management and operations, ensuring efficiency.
  • Provide secretariat duties to the agency Executive and Health and Safety Committee.
  • Act as the main contact and liaison for the office, managing relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Support the Agency head’s diary management and administrative needs.
  • Assist in managing employee recognition, staff induction, onboarding/offboarding, and HR duties.
  • Manage procurements, invoices, and office supplies.
  • Improve office management processes and procedures.
  • Provide advice and coordinate briefings to the Inspector-General to support strategic priorities and deadlines.
  • Manage agency property, security, and assets.
  • Support the agency in building a positive organizational culture aligned with APS values.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Proven experience as an Office Manager, Executive Assistant, or similar role, preferably in government or public service.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.
  • Experience in Secretariat functions and supporting governance committees.
  • Problem-solving skills and a focus on process improvement and risk mitigation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High discretion and professionalism with confidential information.
  • Pre-engagement checks, including a national police check.
  • Available to existing public servants via a section 26 transfer.
  • Australian Citizenship and ability to obtain a baseline security clearance.
  • Position based in Sydney only.
