Job summary

Qualifications

• Strong experience in business or consumer banking with understanding of non-financial risk.
• Ability to build trusted senior stakeholder relationships and influence through evidence-based challenge.
• Experience supporting significant transformation, balancing strategic objectives, customer outcomes and risk.
• Experience in business lending or customer facing roles is highly preferred.

What’s the role?

Step into a senior leadership role at the centre of Business Lending’s customer experience and risk agenda. As part of the Business & Wealth Divisional Risk team, you’ll partner with senior leaders to shape decisions, strengthen risk management and support the delivery of the division’s strategy and operating plan. Your advice, oversight and constructive challenge will help ensure delivery of transformational customer experiences while operating within Westpac’s Risk Management Framework, risk appetite and regulatory obligations.

This is an opportunity to build trusted partnerships across the first and second lines, influence strategic priorities and play a meaningful role in transformational change. You’ll bring a practical, forward-looking risk perspective to major initiatives, help leaders navigate complexity and turn emerging risks and insights into clear, actionable outcomes.

• Partner with senior Business Lending and Risk stakeholders to support strategic priorities, operating plans and sound, customer-focused decisions.
• Provide effective second-line advice, oversight and constructive challenge across operational, compliance, conduct and financial crime risks, partnering with risk specialists and partners as required.
• Bring a strong risk lens to transformational initiatives, helping teams anticipate change impacts, resolve issues and embed sustainable controls.
• Oversee issue identification, reporting and remediation.
• Monitor control effectiveness and promote a strong, proactive risk culture across the Business & Wealth Division.
• Prepare clear, insightful non-financial risk and governance reporting for senior Risk leaders.

This is an 18-month max term opportunity based in Sydney, with hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

What do I need?

• Strong experience in business or consumer banking, with a sound understanding of non-financial risk in a complex environment.
• A proven ability to build trusted senior stakeholder relationships, work across organisational boundaries and influence senior stakeholders through constructive, evidence-based challenge.
• Experience supporting significant transformation or change, with the judgement to balance strategic objectives, customer outcomes and risk.
• Experience in business lending or customer facing roles is highly preferred.
