Job summary

Legal Aid NSW, Sydney CBD, is seeking an Executive Director, Civil Law to lead one of Australia’s largest civil law practices. Reporting to the CEO, you will provide strategic leadership for statewide civil law services, ensuring high‑quality, client‑centred legal assistance to people in hardship and disadvantaged communities.

You will oversee a large multidisciplinary workforce across metropolitan and regional locations, manage significant budgets and funding, drive reform and innovation, and

Qualifications

• Extensive executive leadership experience in complex legal/public sector environments.
• Strong ability to shape long-term organisational direction and strategy.
• Proven track record in stakeholder engagement and influencing at senior levels.
• Outstanding communication skills for executive, board and government interactions.
• Commitment to access to justice and working with vulnerable communities.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to executive decision-making and organisational strategy.
• Lead the development and delivery of statewide civil law priorities and services.
• Provide expert advice to the Executive and Board on civil justice issues and policy initiatives.
• Oversee allocation of resources to maximise service effectiveness and client outcomes.
• Lead and develop senior leaders while fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture.
• Build and maintain influential relationships across government, the legal profession and community organisations.
