Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District are seeking an Executive Clinical Director of Research. Part-time district role with primary locations at Wollongong Hospital and Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital. Applications close Friday, 24 October 2025. REQ599343.

Responsibilities

The Executive Clinical Director of Research will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the ISLHD research agenda. This senior leadership position is responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing research strategy, governance and policy
  • Fostering a culture of research excellence
  • Strengthening academic and industry partnerships
  • Leading translational, high-impact research that aligns with ISLHD’s vision
  • Ensuring effective research ethics, governance and performance monitoring
  • Working closely with clinician researchers and the Research Office team
  • Championing innovation, professional research standards and capacity building
  • Securing funding, managing intellectual property, and advancing collaborative initiatives that embed research within clinical practice and service delivery
Partnerships and opportunities

The role will foster strong working relationships between ISLHD and the University of Wollongong (UOW) and other research partners to advance research within these organisations and across the region, ensuring a vibrant research culture across the community. There will be an opportunity to apply for an honorary title with UOW and potentially take on an academic role with UOW.
