Job summary

Downer is seeking a motivated Estimator to prepare accurate tenders and quotations, while supporting the Sales and Business Development team in securing new work and maintaining client relationships. Based out of Hume, ACT, this role offers opportunities to work across a diverse projects portfolio and collaborate with key stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has 12 months' estimating or site delivery experience, with strong mathematical and communication skills and a proactive approach to business

Qualifications

• 12 months' experience in estimating, site engineering or related project delivery role.
• Experience in roads construction, civil infrastructure or similar industry is highly regarded.
• Strong mathematical and analytical capability for first-principles estimates.
• Excellent organisational, planning, and time-management skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit RFT and RFQ responses within required timeframes.
• Develop detailed first-principles cost estimates in line with procedures.
• Review contract docs and drawings to identify risks and opportunities.
• Draft tender qualifications and conditions for review.
• Present tender submissions at review meetings and contribute to tender strategy discussions.
• Collaborate with Sales, Business Development, Account Management and operations to prioritise workloads.
• Build and maintain relationships with existing clients while identifying new business opportunities.
• Manage tender pipelines, databases and customer portals to support forecasting and work-winning activities.

Downer is seeking a motivated Estimator who will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders and quotations, while supporting the Sales and Business Development team in securing new work and maintaining strong client relationships. Based out of Hume, ACT this role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse portfolio of projects, collaborate with key stakeholders, and contribute to the ongoing growth of the business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare and submit Requests for Tender (RFT) and Requests for Quotation (RFQ) responses within required timeframes.
• Develop detailed first-principles cost estimates in accordance with company procedures.
• Review contract documentation and drawings to identify project risks and opportunities.
• Draft tender qualifications and conditions for review.
• Present tender submissions at review meetings and contribute to tender strategy discussions.
• Collaborate closely with Sales, Business Development, Account Management, and operational teams to prioritise workloads and support business objectives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients while identifying opportunities to develop new business.
• Manage tender pipelines, databases, and customer portals to support forecasting and work-winning activities.

ABOUT YOU

• Minimum 12 months' experience in an estimating, site engineering or related project delivery role.
• Previous experience within roads construction, civil infrastructure or similar industry is highly regarded.
• Strong mathematical and analytical capability, with experience preparing first-principles estimates.
• Excellent organisational, planning, and time-management skills.
• The ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to identifying new business opportunities.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• A strategic mindset, exceptional attention to detail, and a personable, collaborative working style.
