Job description

The Role

The Department of Defence is the Federal Government’s largest landholder, managing over 3 million hectares across the country. Within the Security and Estate Group, Estate Planning plays a critical role—providing the strategic planning framework and guidance for more than 70 major bases, 70 training ranges, and over 800 leased and owned properties. This is the Defence Estate.

About our Team

Are you someone who:

  • Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment?
  • Enjoys engaging with policy makers and technical experts to influence high-level strategic decisions?
  • Values building relationships and navigating complex organisations?
  • Loves strategic thinking and wants to contribute to the Defence of Australia?

If so, Estate Planning could be your next career move.

In this role, you will contribute to estate analysis and planning outcomes within an integrated workforce, gaining valuable exposure to planning legislation and practices across Australia. You will have opportunities to make an impact at the local (base), regional, and national levels while collaborating across Defence and Government on planning initiatives that shape the future of the estate. We are looking for someone who is energised by solving complex problems, thrives in collaboration, and is comfortable working in a fast-moving, sometimes ambiguous environment.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Proven ability to deliver strategic studies and planning outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate with influence across internal and external networks.
  • Experience preparing high-quality advice, briefs, and reports for senior leaders.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to prioritise competing demands in a complex environment.
  • A quick learner with a proactive mindset and a desire to grow.
  • A positive, inclusive team player who can work effectively in a geographically dispersed and diverse organisation.

Application Closing Date: Sunday 12 October 2025
