Job summary

Varsity College in Australia seeks a Laboratory Technician to support practical science classes and maintain safe, well-equipped laboratories for staff and students.

Qualifications

  • Experience assisting with practical science demonstrations.
  • Ability to manage chemicals and laboratory waste safely.
  • Familiarity with maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and set up samples, demonstrations, equipment and scientific materials for practical classes, including preparing chemical solutions and basic laboratory equipment.
  • Safely manage chemicals, laboratory waste and scientific materials, maintaining clean, secure and compliant laboratories, preparation areas, storerooms and equipment.
  • Operate, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, develop and update laboratory procedures, and arrange repairs or replacements for damaged or faulty equipment.
  • Support science teaching staff and students with practical activities, demonstrations, experiments, field trips and STEM initiatives, providing technical advice and prioritising tasks to support learning outcomes.
  • Manage stock, inventory, purchases, deliveries, registers, records and asset information, including chemical and hazardous substance records, budgets and orders, and liaise with suppliers, industry, other schools and laboratory staff.
