Remuneration: Stream A, Level 4-5: $50.92 - $56.93 per hour inclusive of superannuation and allowances

Central Highlands Regional Council is currently seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our team in a part-time capacity, working every second week (Monday-Friday).We’re looking for a motivated professional to help protect public health and ensure a safe environment for our community. In this role you’ll work across environmental protection, and compliance, providing expert advice and engaging with residents, businesses, and stakeholders. You’ll enjoy variety in your day-to-day work, opportunities to contribute to healthier communities, and the support of a collaborative local government team.

In this busy role, you will support the organisation by:

• Assist with the delivery of all environmental health responsibilities in accordance with established legislation and procedures, maintaining a client focused service.
• Manage the application process for licences, registrations and permits including approvals, renewals and transfers within statutory timeframes.
• Audit, regulate and enforce activities that are licensed, registered or approved by council.
• Investigate complaints, conduct inspections and identify and implement appropriate enforcement actions.
• Provide environmental and public health advice and recommended conditions of approval for development application.
• Understand, interpret, administer and comply with relevant legislation and Council policies applicable to the functions within the local government environmental health unit.
• Maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective customer relationship management whilst providing advice and enforcement services.
• Assist with public health emergency response (e.g. food recalls, disease outbreaks, disaster events) in collaboration with State and local partners.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to possess:

• Tertiary qualifications in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or other Environmental Health Australia (EHA) or other relevant accredited courses recognised by Environmental Health Australia (EHA).
• Minimum of Queensland C class provisional driver's licence.
• Authorised Persons accreditation (ability to obtain on commencement).
• Sound disciplined technical knowledge relating to public health, environmental protection, health promotion, social issues and sustainable development.
• Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant Legislation, Australian Standards, Local Laws and Policies in environmental health.
• Demonstrated ability to research and draft replies to correspondence, reports and other such documentation.
• Competent use of MS Office Suite
