Job summary

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is seeking an Environmental Compliance & Protection Officer to safeguard public health, the environment and local amenity across the Canterbury-Bankstown area.

You will investigate environmental health, compliance and land-use matters, conduct inspections, compile evidence and deliver practical outcomes through education, advice and enforcement. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement are essential.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Health or related field.
• Experience in environmental health, compliance or regulatory investigations.
• Knowledge of relevant environmental, planning and public health legislation.
• Strong investigative, report-writing and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Current Class C Driver Licence.

Responsibilities

• Investigate environmental, public health and land use compliance matters across the Canterbury-Bankstown area.
• Conduct inspections, gather evidence, and determine appropriate compliance outcomes.
• Deliver practical solutions through education, advice, corrective action and enforcement activities.
• Manage a diverse caseload from initial investigation through to resolution, documentation and follow-up.
• Build positive relationships with residents, businesses and stakeholders through clear and respectful communication.
• Prepare reports, correspondence, statutory notices and evidence briefs to support regulatory outcomes.
• Work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to address environmental and compliance issues.
• Contribute to a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and exceptional customer service.
