Job summary

Downer Energy and Utilities is seeking an experienced Environmental Approvals Manager to lead the environmental planning and approvals function across major infrastructure projects in Australia.

Reporting to the Environmental Planning and Sustainability Director, you will drive strategies, monitor compliance, and engage regulators and stakeholders to deliver strong environmental outcomes throughout project lifecycles.

Qualifications

• Experience managing environmental approvals and compliance in major infrastructure/utilities/construction industries.
• Strong knowledge of NSW and Commonwealth environmental and planning legislation and approval frameworks.
• Experience with government agencies and external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to provide practical environmental advice in a project delivery environment.
• Strong organisational skills with ability to manage competing priorities.
• Experience undertaking environmental audits and compliance reviews.
• Collaborative approach with commitment to safety, sustainability and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and implementation of environmental approvals strategies for SSI/CSSI projects.
• Provide strategic advice on approvals pathways, change management, compliance risk and program impacts.
• Interpret approvals, commitments and Commonwealth requirements into clear project obligations.
• Own post-approval program; coordinate preparation, review, submission and implementation of plans and deliverables.
• Support environmental management systems and project compliance obligations.
• Manage specialist consultants, approvals budgets, deliverable quality and schedules; contribute to tenders and change processes.
• Build productive relationships with regulators, clients and stakeholders.
