Job summary

Lactalis Australia is seeking an experienced environmental leader to drive governance, compliant operations and continuous improvement across a diverse manufacturing footprint. You will partner with site leaders to deliver sustainable outcomes while balancing business priorities and regulatory requirements.

You will oversee wastewater and waste management, lead risk-based decision making and influence safety, quality and environmental performance at Lidcombe, Griffith, Nambour, Darwin, Clarence

Qualifications

• Highly experienced environmental professional with operational partner focus.

• Experience in manufacturing or regulated environments is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental compliance activities across multiple sites and ensure licences and standards are met.
• Provide expert environmental advice and risk management guidance to site leaders.
• Manage regulatory reporting and relationships with environmental authorities.
• Drive consistency in governance frameworks and management systems across the network.
• Provide oversight for wastewater, trade waste and operational environmental controls.
• Lead incident investigations and ensure corrective and preventive actions.
• Support and continuously improve ISO 14001 EMS across the network.
• Monitor water, waste and energy performance and identify improvement opportunities.
• Partner with site leadership to strengthen environmental capability and accountability.
• Lead environmental projects delivering sustainability and operational benefits.

Reporting to the Head of Environment, you will be responsible for providing environmental leadership, technical expertise and support across multiple manufacturing sites including Lidcombe, Griffith, Nambour, Darwin, Clarence Gardens, and Harvey.

You will drive environmental compliance and governance, oversee wastewater and waste management programs, support environmental risk management activities, and lead continuous improvement initiatives that deliver sustainable environmental and business outcomes.

This position offers the opportunity to influence site leadership teams, operational decision-making and environmental performance across a diverse manufacturing footprint.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead environmental compliance activities across assigned sites, ensuring adherence to environmental legislation, licences and company standards.
• Provide expert environmental advice and risk management guidance to operational leaders.
• Manage regulatory reporting and maintain effective relationships with environmental authorities and regulators.
• Drive consistency in environmental standards, governance frameworks and management systems.
• Provide technical oversight and support for wastewater treatment, trade waste and operational environmental controls.
• Lead environmental incident investigations and ensure effective corrective and preventative actions.
• Support and continuously improve ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems across the network.
• Monitor environmental performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve water, waste and energy performance.
• Partner with site leadership teams to strengthen environmental capability and accountability.
• Lead environmental projects that deliver both sustainability and operational benefits.

To succeed in this role, you will ideally bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline, supported by extensive environmental management experience.
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, licensing, compliance frameworks and ISO 14001 management systems.
• Demonstrated experience within manufacturing, industrial, FMCG or similarly regulated environments.
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, drive change and deliver environmental improvement initiatives across multiple sites.
• Highly developed analytical, risk management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance operational and environmental priorities.
