Job summary

Octave is seeking a Solution Architect in Melbourne to translate business needs into scalable, secure architectures. You will lead end-to-end design from concept to delivery, collaborating with customers, delivery teams, developers, and stakeholders to ensure outcomes align with strategic goals.

The role emphasizes technical depth, governance, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on cloud, integration, and enterprise software.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in IT or CS
• Experience designing and delivering enterprise software solutions
• Proven background in solution architecture or business architecture
• Experience in presales incl. software demos, RFIs and RFPs
• Knowledge of TOGAF or equivalent
• Strong understanding of service-oriented and integration-based architectures
• Experience selling, architecting, and delivering cloud-based solutions
• Familiar with Agile and Waterfall delivery; SAFe advantageous
• Experience delivering complex enterprise projects in high-availability environments
• Exposure to CAD, Mobile Computing, or public safety tech is an advantage
• Experience modelling business processes and solution designs using industry tools

Responsibilities

• Become a subject matter expert across Octave's products, services, and markets
• Design end-to-end solution architectures addressing customer needs and business objectives
• Lead selection, design, and specification of solution components with security, performance, scalability, integration, and UX in mind
• Create solution architecture artefacts using Octave's standards and frameworks
• Gather, analyse, and document business and technical requirements
• Translate customer challenges into practical, value-driven Octave solutions
• Present solution designs, demonstrations, and technical recommendations clearly
• Review technical documentation for quality and alignment with standards
• Provide high-level effort estimates to support bids and opportunities
• Support presales activities, including software demonstrations and customer engagements
• Identify emerging market trends and new solution opportunities
• Contribute to architecture standards, governance, and continuous improvement
• Participate in architecture peer reviews and technical decision-making
• Act as a strategic advisor to customers and stakeholders through project lifecycle
• Partner with development teams to align designs with product capabilities
• Support issue resolution across the SDLC
• Ensure architectural principles and governance controls are applied consistently
• Balance technical excellence with commercial realities, managing risks and dependencies
• Share knowledge, mentor colleagues, and strengthen capability across the business
