Job summary

FIS seeks a Frontline Forward Deployed Engineer to embed with Tier-1 bank clients, translating modernization goals into production software at scale. You will design architectures, ship code, and build trusted relationships with bank leadership to drive enterprise adoption.

Role blends engineering, architecture, and client engagement across cloud, data, and AI-enabled workflows, with 25–50% travel and hybrid schedules for Sydney/Christchurch proximity candidates.

Qualifications

• Shipping robust infrastructure in Go or similar systems languages (Rust, Java).
• Deep experience with Kafka, concurrency patterns, event-driven architectures, and multi-region databases.
• Strong background in cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure). SRE principles, IaC, Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Experience building data-intensive systems and distributed pipelines.
• AI-native engineer who stays current on LLM capabilities and agentic development patterns.
• 4+ years in a technical, customer-facing role (Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Architect, Consultant, or Software Engineer).
• Fintech/banking knowledge of transaction flows or core banking tech is a plus.
• High agency and comfort in ambiguity; writes the playbook when none exists.
• Ownership mindset: fixes issues before go-live and builds resilient systems.
• Versatile: shifts between coding, architecture, and workshops.

Responsibilities

• Embed and discover with bank architecture, translate business needs into technical requirements.
• Architect future-state architecture to unlock accelerated innovation.
• Build trusted relationships with bank engineering and architecture leadership.
• Feed the product with patterns, friction points, and needs from deployments.
• Build proofs of concept and end-to-end bank use cases (e.g., digital twins, wallets).
• Integrate upstream and downstream systems with durable, production-grade patterns.
• Develop high-performance data pipelines connecting existing systems.
• Test and validate scale, resilience, and failover behavior.
• Presales support with technical demos, architecture workshops, and platform education.
• Travel to client sites 25–50% depending on phase.
