Datacom is seeking a Senior Enterprise Architect in Australia to shape technology futures for major organisations. You will operate at the highest levels of architecture practice, advising executives and guiding delivery across multiple domains.

This hands-on leadership role involves defining reference architectures, running governance reviews, mentoring teams, and collaborating with sales and delivery to drive growth. NV-1 clearance may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Business or equivalent practical experience.
• TOGAF certification and cloud platform certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP) desirable.

At Datacom, we're looking for a Senior Enterprise Architect to help shape the technology futures of some of the region's most significant organisations. This is a rare opportunity to operate at the highest levels of architecture practice — working with customer executives, influencing strategy, and seeing your decisions come to life through real delivery.

About the Role

This is a hands‑on leadership position for an architect who is equally comfortable sketching solutions on a whiteboard with a CIO as they are designing reference architectures, running governance reviews, and mentoring delivery teams through implementation.

As a Senior Enterprise Architect, you'll be a trusted advisor to Datacom's customers and a strategic partner to our sales and delivery teams, shaping architectural direction across Business, Data, Application, and Technology domains, and identifying opportunities that drive real growth across the organisation.

What You'll Do

Shape Architecture Strategy

• Develop and evolve enterprise architecture strategies, principles, standards, and roadmaps across all architecture domains
• Lead architecture governance — including review boards, design authority participation, and standards compliance
• Define reusable patterns and reference architectures that accelerate delivery and raise the quality bar across engagements
• Evaluate emerging technologies and trends to keep Datacom — and our customers — ahead of the curve

Deliver Technical Excellence

• Design complex, end‑to‑end solutions spanning hybrid cloud, multi‑cloud, on‑premises, and edge environments
• Conduct architecture assessments of customer environments, surfacing risks, technical debt, and modernisation opportunities
• Develop business capability models, current and future state views, gap analyses, transition roadmaps, and integration strategies
• Provide authoritative recommendations through options papers, architecture decision records, and formal consultancy

Drive Customer Engagement & Growth

• Build and sustain trusted advisor relationships with customer stakeholders from the C‑suite to delivery teams
• Lead discovery workshops, strategic planning sessions, and architecture assessments that uncover real business challenges
• Support pre‑sales activity — contributing to proposals, RFP responses, and statements of work with architecture narratives and effort estimates
• Identify and generate pipeline opportunities across Datacom's managed services, cloud, security, data, and software engineering practices

Mentor & Collaborate

• Mentor and upskill junior and mid‑level architects, fostering a culture of architectural thinking and practical excellence
• Collaborate across solution architects, delivery leads, and engineering teams to ensure architectural intent is preserved through to implementation
• Represent Datacom's architecture capability at industry events, customer forums, and thought leadership engagements

What You'll Bring

Experience

• 10+ years of IT experience with a strong enterprise architecture background spanning multiple domains
• A track record of delivering architecture outcomes in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments — enterprise or government
• Practical experience producing real architecture artefacts: reference architectures, roadmaps, ADRs, standards documentation
• Hands‑on experience in customer‑facing roles — discovery, pre‑sales, workshops, and executive presentations
• Experience designing for hybrid and multi‑cloud environments and translating architecture decisions into commercial context

Knowledge

• Strong working knowledge of TOGAF or equivalent EA frameworks, applied pragmatically in real‑world engagements
• Solid grasp of modern application architecture — microservices, event‑driven, API‑first, containerisation, and serverless
• Working knowledge of data architecture principles — data governance, data mesh, lakehouse, MDM, and analytics platforms
• Deep knowledge of at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) with working familiarity across others
• Understanding of zero‑trust security principles, IAM, and security‑by‑design practices
• Commercial acumen — including software licensing, TCO analysis, business case development, and FinOps thinking

• Exceptional ability to decompose complex problems into structured, actionable decisions
• Outstanding communication skills: Able to translate technical complexity for C‑suite executives and technical teams alike
• Strong facilitation and presentation skills: Confident leading workshops, steering committees, and executive briefings
• A collaborative mindset: Able to influence without authority and rally diverse teams around a shared architectural vision

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline — or equivalent practical experience
• Desirable: TOGAF certification, cloud platform certifications (AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or GCP Professional Cloud Architect), and postgraduate qualifications
