Job summary

Southern Highlands Christian School is seeking an English teacher for a 6-month contract (0.6–1.0 FTE) in the NSW High School. You will teach across Stages 4–6 from a Biblical perspective, with emphasis on HSC preparation and critical reading and writing development.

The role requires NSW teaching accreditation, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to child safety, staff devotions, and parent partnership within a Christian educational environment.

Qualifications

  • Committed Christian of evangelical persuasion and active local church involvement.
  • Suitably qualified and NESA accredited in NSW.
  • Qualified to teach English across Stages 4, 5 and 6; Stage 6 English Advanced/Extension is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; understanding adolescents' developmental, spiritual and emotional needs.
  • Competent with technology in teaching and learning and committed to ongoing professional learning.
  • Commitment to child safety, parent partnerships, staff devotions and school life.
  • Current Working with Children Check.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver and evaluate engaging English programs across Stages 4–6, compliant with NESA and taught from a Biblical perspective.
  • Teach Stage 6 English with academic rigour, preparing students for the HSC and further study.
  • Develop students' reading, writing and critical thinking across texts, building confident expression.
  • Foster a positive, child-safe classroom culture; differentiate learning; liaise with Learning Support.
  • Implement quality assessment practices, monitor progress and report accurately and on time.
  • Care pastorally for students; communicate with parents; contribute to faculty planning and pastoral and co-curricular programs.

THE POSITION

Department: High School - English
Status: 6 month contract, 0.6 to 1.0 FTE (negotiable for the right applicant)
Reporting: Head of High School
Award / Agreement: Remuneration, duties and conditions as per the School's applicable Award or Enterprise Agreement (or as revised)

KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • A committed Christian of evangelical persuasion, actively involved in a local church, and able to sincerely affirm the School's Statement of Faith.
  • Suitably qualified and NESA accredited in NSW, with a genuine passion for Christian education.
  • Qualified to teach English across Stages 4, 5 and 6; capacity to teach Stage 6 English Advanced or Extension is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and an understanding of the developmental, spiritual and emotional needs of adolescents.
  • Competent with technology in teaching and learning and committed to your own ongoing professional learning.
  • A commitment to a child safe culture, strong parent partnerships, staff devotions and the wider life of the school.
  • A current Working with Children Check.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop students' reading, writing and critical thinking across a wide range of texts, building confidence in written and spoken expression.
  • Foster a positive, child safe classroom culture with clear expectations, differentiating learning and liaising with Learning Support so every student is appropriately supported.
  • Implement quality assessment practices, monitoring student progress and reporting accurately and on time.
  • Care pastorally for students so each is known, seen and loved; communicate with parents in line with school policy; and contribute to faculty planning and to the pastoral and co-curricular programs, including debating and public speaking.
