Job summary

Torres Strait Island Regional Council (TSIRC) is seeking a motivated Engineering Officer to join our Engineering Services team and help deliver and maintain essential community infrastructure. This hands-on role covers civil works, water and wastewater operations, waste management, airport and seaport maintenance, and general upkeep across the Torres Strait region.

Qualifications

• Mandatory current C-class driver's licence (Open) from Queensland.
• Practical experience in civil works, maintenance or infrastructure services.
• Ability to operate plant and equipment safely; relevant tickets/licences highly regarded.
• Strong work ethic, able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety standards.
• Good communication and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair community infrastructure including roads, parks and public amenities.
• Operate and maintain water and wastewater systems where applicable.
• Support landfill and waste collection operations.
• Conduct airport and seaport inspections and maintenance.
• Operate plant, machinery, tools and equipment safely.
• Monitor infrastructure conditions and report defects promptly.
• Respond to maintenance issues to minimise service disruptions.

About the Role

As an Engineering Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality infrastructure services across the Torres Strait region. You will be involved in a diverse range of activities including civil works, water and wastewater operations, waste management, airport and marine facility maintenance, and general infrastructure upkeep.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair community infrastructure including roads, parks, stormwater systems, marine facilities, and public amenities.
• Assist in the operation and maintenance of water supply and wastewater treatment systems, ensuring safe and reliable services.
• Support landfill and waste collection operations in line with environmental guidelines.
• Conduct airport and seaport inspections and maintenance in accordance with relevant regulations.
• Operate plant, machinery, tools, and equipment safely and effectively.
• Monitor infrastructure conditions and report defects promptly.
• Respond to maintenance issues and breakdowns to minimise service disruptions.

What We're Looking For

• Mandatory Current C class, Type Provisional or higher Queensland Drivers licence (Open) and not expired is esssential. No Learner's Licence.
• Practical experience in civil works, maintenance, or infrastructure services (desirable).
• Ability to operate plant and equipment safely (tickets/licences highly regarded).
• Strong work ethic and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to workplace health and safety standards.
• Good communication skills and reliability.
