Engineering Mechanical Apprentice - Fitter

Zeal Futures, in partnership with our host employer, AstraZeneca, based in North Ryde, is looking for a motivated and reliable Mechanical Fitter Apprentice to join their team. This 4-year apprenticeship will allow you to earn a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade through a combination of formal training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and practical, hands-on experience on the job.

What You’ll Be Doing

As an apprentice, you’ll gain skills and experience in:

  • Inspecting, maintaining, and cleaning highly specialised manufacturing process lines and equipment following established procedures and standards.
  • Diagnosing and resolving mechanical faults associated with automated process lines.
  • Supporting Process Engineers with ongoing process improvement activities.
  • Identifying and evaluating opportunities to increase production efficiency while minimising safety and quality issues.
  • Working across various manufacturing and laboratory environments while maintaining high safety and hygiene standards.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work across automated primary, secondary, and tertiary packing manufacturing process lines in clean room environments, as well as laboratories and other specialised facilities. Approximately 70% of your time will be on-site and 30% in the workshop, with occasional training provided by other providers to meet course requirements.

  • Willing to learn and committed to completing a trade qualification.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to manage time effectively.
  • Detail-oriented, honest, and takes pride in producing quality work.
  • Computer literate and capable of working with digital systems.
