Qualifications

  • Strong English communication and collaboration skills and Agile experience.

What you’ll do

As an Engineering Manager, you will leverage your deep technical expertise and leadership skills to guide and inspire a team of highly skilled engineers. You will ensure the delivery of robust, scalable, and secure technology solutions that underpin Woolworths’ digital ecosystem. Your leadership will be crucial in fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team, driving innovation and delivering exceptional results for the business.

This role will have a significant impact on the development and maintenance of Woolworths’ digital products and services, collaborating closely with product managers, designers, and business stakeholders across the organisation.

  • Lead & Mentor Engineering Team: Guide, mentor, and inspire a team of engineers across various disciplines (software development, cloud infrastructure, data engineering), fostering a positive and collaborative environment that encourages professional growth and a passion for building high-quality technology solutions.
  • Drive Technical Excellence & Innovation: Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, engineering practices, and architectural design within the team. Encourage experimentation with new technologies and approaches to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Shape Engineering Strategy & Vision: Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to define and implement a cohesive engineering strategy that aligns with Woolworths’ overall business objectives and supports the delivery of exceptional digital experiences.
  • Ensure Operational Excellence: Champion operational excellence by implementing robust monitoring, alerting, and incident management processes. Proactively identify and mitigate risks to ensure system stability, performance, and security.
  • Facilitate Collaboration & Communication: Foster strong working relationships with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and operations. Effectively communicate technical decisions, progress updates, and roadblocks to stakeholders at all levels.
What you’ll bring
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in software development, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and tools.
