Job summary

Mable’s Leap in! engineering group is seeking an Engineering Manager who can lead multiple squads, set technical direction, and manage people. The role reports to the CTO and focuses on architecture, delivery, and stakeholder management across the engineering teams.

You will mentor engineers, champion modern engineering practices, and collaborate with practice leads to raise standards while supporting a hybrid work setup. This is a pivotal leadership role in Australia’s healthtech space.

Qualifications

• Strong technical background in general engineering.
• Experience delivering large initiatives across multiple teams.
• Bachelor degree in computer science or demonstrated self-learning.
• Previous team lead experience.
• Good understanding of modern CD/DevOps practices and monitoring tools like Datadog.
• Excellent communication and a team-oriented mindset.
• Leave it better than you found it in your code.

About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Engineering Manager to join the Leap in! engineering group (part of the broader Attain HealthTech engineering group). The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded technical leader able to work as a technical, team and people leader.

This role reports to the CTO and is responsible for leading multiple Engineering squads both in technical direction and architecture as well as delivery and stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities

• Work as part of the senior engineering leadership team to help build a quality engineering organisation
• Assist squad leaders to maintain their backlog providing assistance with architecture and stakeholder management
• Collaborate with engineering practice leads to improve core engineering practices across backend, front end, infrastructure and quality practices
• Help to monitor squads delivery cadence and work with a team on improving on their efficiency
• Promote sound, modern engineering practices and tools within the squads (TDD, pair programming, efficient branching strategies, etc)
• Teach and mentor your squads on making sound technology choices, software design practices and the ways of working
• Mentor and grow Engineers under your care
• Collaborate on and recommend sound DevOps practices in the teams
• Manage direct reports - Engineering Team Leads in each of your squads

Skills, Knowledge And Experience

• Strong technical background in general engineering
• Demonstrated experience in delivering large engineering initiatives across multiple teams
• Strong technical underpinnings - either through a bachelor of computer science degree or demonstrated self learning
• Previous team lead experience
• Good understanding of modern CD and software operations practices such as trunk-based development, 12 factor application principles in practice, utilisation of monitoring tools like Datadog, etc.
• Excellent communication skills and team-oriented mindset
• Have a ‘leave it better than you found it’ attitude towards code
