Job summary

JBS Pork Australia, based at the Corowa NSW site, is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead maintenance and engineering strategy for farming facilities, driving safety, compliance and continuous improvement. The role reports to the Manager - Progeny Systems and requires oversight of capital projects and commissioning across sites.

The candidate will bring a mechanical/structural engineering degree (electrical engineering experience welcomed) and a strong background in maintenance management,

Qualifications

• Mechanical/Structural Engineering degree required or equivalent; electrical engineering experience considered.
• Experience with maintenance work management practices is advantageous.
• Clear understanding and competency in overseeing high-risk activities (working at heights, confined spaces, electrical and gas regulations).

Responsibilities

• Lead maintenance and engineering strategy to keep farming facilities safe and compliant.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs across sites with tracking of compliance.
• Oversee maintenance systems of work and prevent critical equipment failures.

JBS Pork Australia has approximately 1400 employees spread across our two processing facilities as well as multiple farms and feed mills across Victoria and New South Wales.

About the Role

JBS Pork Australia are currently recruiting an Engineering Manager. Based at our Corowa site (NSW), reporting to the Manager - Progeny Systems, this is a senior leadership position within the maintenance team. The position provides strong engineering solutions and systems of work to maintain farming facilities in safe working conditions and drive continuous improvement through facility upgrades.

Farming facilities are varied and include, but are not limited to, pig housing, feed systems/silos, effluent systems (including some biogas systems), gas and electrical equipment (including critical generators, PLCs, feed control systems and automation).

Responsibilities

• Lead maintenance and engineering strategy to ensure farming facilities are safe, compliant, and support animal welfare outcomes.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs across all sites, with systems to track compliance.
• Ensure regulatory compliance for electrical, gas, and safety requirements.
• Oversee maintenance systems of work, focusing on preventing critical equipment failures (e.g. generators, water pumps, automation systems).
• Provide technical leadership and support to Site Managers, Supervisors, trades, and production teams.
• Manage maintenance budgets (R&M and capital), including planning, cost control, and long-term forecasting.
• Lead commissioning and onboarding of new facilities, ensuring effective maintenance integration from day one.
• Drive continuous improvement by identifying root causes of failures and implementing engineering solutions.
• Manage capital projects end-to-end, including scoping, design, approvals, delivery, and performance review.
• Oversee contractor management, ensuring safety, cost-effectiveness, and biosecurity compliance.

Monitor and develop maintenance team capability, including coaching and performance management.

Ensure effective communication, reporting, and alignment with production, while responding to urgent maintenance issues as required.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

• Mechanical/Structural Engineering Degree. Electrical Engineer with relevant experience would also be considered.
• Working knowledge of controlled ventilation facilities for intensive animal production an advantage.
• A thorough understanding of maintenance work management practices, qualifications in maintenance management will be an advantage.
• Clear understanding and competency in overseeing high risk activities (working at heights, confined space, electrical and gas regulations)
• Proven ability to lead, manage and motivate staff.
• The ability to plan, organise and control project and maintenance activities to optimise the use of available resources.
• High level communication skills, initiative and strong attention to detail.
• Sound knowledge of OH&S regulations in NSW and VIC.
• Preparedness to work flexible hours.
• Valid drivers license.
• White Card.
