Job summary

Northern Beaches Council is seeking a Civil Engineering or Transport Planning student for a six-month Engineering Intern internship in the Transport Network team. The role is a temporary full-time position requiring 4–5 days per week and a proactive approach to supporting traffic engineers.

You will assist with traffic investigations, customer requests, and work orders, contributing to safe, efficient transport infrastructure across the Northern Beaches area.

Qualifications

• Must be a student currently undertaking Civil Engineering or Transport Planning degree.
• Available for six month internship and able to work 4–5 full days per week.
• Interest in Traffic Engineering and local government.

Responsibilities

• Support Traffic Engineers and Traffic Officers in traffic investigations and administrative servicing of Local Transport Forum.
• Investigate and respond to customer requests related to traffic engineering functions.
• Assist with Work Orders for signposting and linemarking as directed by Transport Network team.
• Assist with reviewing traffic permit applications assigned to the traffic team.

Salary Range: $51,448.32 to $66,795.12 per annum + super (subject to skills and experience)

Our opportunity:

1. Supporting the Traffic Engineers and Traffic Officers in completing traffic investigations and administrative servicing of the Local Transport Forum.


2. Investigate and respond to customer requests relating to the traffic engineering functions of Council.


3. Assist with the preparation of Work Orders for signposting and linemarking works arising from Transport Forum resolutions and other traffic investigations as directed by other Transport Network team members


4. Assist with reviewing traffic permit applications assigned to the traffic team

About you:

We’re looking for a student currently undertaking a Civil Engineering or Transport Planning Degree to join the Transport Network team for a six month internship. The successful applicant will be keen to work in local government and have an interest in Traffic Engineering. You’ll need to be able to work at least 4 and ideally 5 full days per week and bring self-motivation and a pro‑active approach to a team passionate about making a difference to our community.
