Job summary

Klohn Crippen Berger (KCB) Brisbane is seeking an Engineering Geologist to work on large mining and civil projects. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality geoscience and engineering services with opportunities to mentor, travel, and engage with senior leadership.

You will contribute to investigations, reporting, and design support, while collaborating with a skilled team in a hybrid work environment and a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Geology, Geology, or Geoscience; Master’s preferred.
• 2–4 years of relevant engineering geology experience.
• Fieldwork: geological mapping, borehole logging, drilling supervision.
• Experience supervising drilling operations and in-situ testing.
• Willingness to undertake regular fieldwork and travel.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software and tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Current unrestricted Driver’s Licence.

Responsibilities

• Assist investigations for foundations conditions and in situ material properties.
• Support investigations for civil mining infrastructure – water/sediment dams, roads, and plant site earthworks and foundations.
• Undertake desktop assessments, primarily geological / geotechnical data collection, manipulation, interpretation, management and reporting.
• Contribute to the preparation of engineering reports, drawings, specifications, BOQ and cost estimates.
• Provide support to other projects and teams when workloads are light.
• Work in accordance with KCB’s QHSE Management System.

What you will do

Contribute to a technical role focused on engineering geology for mining projects, aligned with your academic background and early professional experience.

Typical responsibilities include:

• Assist with conceptual and detailed investigations for foundations conditions, in situ material properties, construction materials and construction monitoring of mine waste tailings and waste rock storage facilities.

• Support investigations for civil mining infrastructure – water/sediment dams, roads, and plant site earthworks and foundations.

• Undertake desktop assessments, primarily geological / geotechnical data collection, manipulation, interpretation, management and reporting.

• Contribute to the preparation of engineering reports, drawings, specifications, bill of quantities and cost estimates.

• Provide support to other projects and teams as required, particularly during periods of when engineering‑specific project workloads are light.

• Work in accordance with KCB’s Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Management System, actively participating in a safe and responsible work culture.

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Geology, Geology, or Geoscience (Master’s degree in Engineering Geology preferred);

• 2–4 years of relevant professional experience in engineering geology;

• Practical fieldwork experience, including geological mapping, borehole logging, drilling supervision, and geotechnical sampling;

• Experience supervising drilling operations and supporting in‑situ testing programs;

• Willingness to undertake regular fieldwork and travel;

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills;

• Proficiency in geotechnical software and tools;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; and

• Current unrestricted Drivers Licence.
