Who We’re Looking For

As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership across tailings storage facilities, slurry pipeline systems, water management infrastructure, and mining projects throughout Australia and internationally. This is an opportunity to take a leading role in a growing mechanical team, influence the direction of our mechanical practice, mentor developing engineers, and contribute to industry‑leading projects that support our purpose of Sustaining the Future.

The Opportunity

As a senior member of our engineering team, you will provide technical leadership in the design and delivery of complex mechanical systems for mining and tailings projects. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and senior leaders to develop practical, robust, and risk‑informed engineering solutions.

You will be recognised as a trusted technical advisor, supporting both project delivery and the ongoing growth of KCB's mechanical capability.

What You Will Do
  • Lead the design and technical delivery of tailings pipelines, pump stations, slurry transport systems, and associated mine infrastructure.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers and designers across project teams.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior and intermediate mechanical engineers.
  • Perform and review hydraulic calculations, pipeline stress analysis, and process piping designs.
  • Design and review pressure vessels, storage tanks, pump systems, and custom mechanical equipment.
  • Undertake steady‑state and transient hydraulic modelling using tools such as AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse, and Bentley Hammer.
  • Lead technical reviews and ensure engineering deliverables meet quality, safety, and client requirements.
  • Support proposal development, project planning, and client engagement activities.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of KCB's mechanical engineering practice across Australia.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical).
  • NER, CPEng, RPEQ or equivalent professional accreditation.
  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience within mining, industrial, infrastructure, or oil & gas sectors.
  • Strong expertise in piping systems, hydraulic modelling, pressure vessels, tanks, and slurry transport systems.
  • Experience delivering projects within EPC or EPCM environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and mentor engineering teams.
  • Experience preparing CAPEX and OPEX estimates.
  • Knowledge of slurry pump systems, pipeline operations, and mine infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with engineering and design tools including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
