Job summary

WeBuild is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the Snowy 2.0 project, focusing on designing, analysing and implementing mechanical systems to meet project requirements and standards. The role involves collaboration within a multidisciplinary team and on-site delivery of mechanical solutions.

The successful candidate will have 3–5 years in heavy industry, CAD experience (AutoCAD/SolidWorks) and strong data modelling with Excel, plus the ability to thrive in a remote, high-pressure 14/7

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) is required.
  • Membership with Engineers Australia preferred.
  • Valid Manual Driver’s License and High-Risk Work Licenses are essential for plant access.
  • White Card.
  • 3–5 years of experience in heavy industry (Mining, Oil & Gas, Power Generation, or Manufacturing).
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD (AutoCAD/SolidWorks) and advanced MS Excel for data modelling.
  • Experience with rotating equipment (pumps, gearboxes, fans), heavy machinery and structural steel.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for drafting and design.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Eagerness to learn and apply new skills.
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced project environments.
  • Time management to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Comfortable working in remote, high-pressure environments on a 14/7 roster with extended hours.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Deputy Managers in designing mechanical components and systems for the project.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to analyse and modify designs based on project requirements and constraints.
  • Perform calculations and simulations to verify mechanical designs and ensure feasibility.
  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and documentation using CAD software.
  • Support the implementation and installation of mechanical systems on-site.
  • Contribute to project meetings and provide progress updates on mechanical design.
  • Participate in design reviews and identify potential improvements.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining engineering documentation, reports and records.
  • Prepare SOW, material and equipment procurement requests and liaise with suppliers and FGJV Global supply chain team.
  • Comply with project safety and quality standards in all mechanical activities.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis on equipment failures to prevent recurrence.
  • Utilize CMMS to track asset health, manage work orders, and analyze MTBF.
  • Review technical bids, manage service providers on-site, and ensure parts procurement meets specs.

Job description

This role is responsible for supporting the mechanical engineering activities within the Snowy 2.0 project related to Heavy Machinery. The role's primary purpose is to assist in designing, analysing, and implementing mechanical systems, ensuring they meet project requirements and industry standards.

Experience:

  • Industry: 3–5 years of experience in heavy industry (Mining, Oil & Gas, Power Generation, or Manufacturing), within the Mobile Workshop area.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD (AutoCAD/SolidWorks) and advanced MS Excel for data modelling.
  • Asset Experience: Demonstrated experience with rotating equipment (pumps, gearboxes, fans), Heavy machinery and structural steel.
