Job summary

Gold Fields is seeking a geotechnical engineer to support underground hard rock mining operations at the St Ives Gold Mine. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective mining practices on a FIFO roster from Perth.

Your role focuses on daily geotechnical duties, QA/QC, and delivering recommendations to manage geotechnical risks while supporting ongoing projects and meeting production targets.

Qualifications

• Underground geotechnical engineering experience is required.
• Strong data collection, QA/QC, and analytical skills.
• Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily geotechnical duties: review plans, inspect data, monitor conditions, and analyse results.
• Provide geotechnical recommendations and support paste fill design.
• Contribute to short-, medium-, and long-term projects with risk mitigation.

Your expertise will help the operation meet production targets while ensuring compliance with all statutory, site, and environmental standards.

What You'll Do

• Execute daily geotechnical duties: review plans and designs, inspect and collect data, monitor conditions, and perform analyses
• Provide recommendations, manage QA/QC, and support paste fill design
• Contribute to short-, medium-, and long-term projects, ensuring geotechnical risks are identified, assessed, and effectively controlled
• Collect and analysis geotechnical parameters to ensure future mining recommendations are forthcoming when required.

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering or Geology with post-graduate qualifications in Geomechanics
• Demonstrated experience in underground geotechnical engineering
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mining software such as Deswik, Datamine, Rocscience, Map3D
• A growth mindset, with strong communication, responsibility, and relationship-building skills
