Job description

TasPorts is establishing a dedicated stakeholder and community engagement function, and we are looking for the person to lead it. You will shape how TasPorts engages with communities, industry and government across Tasmania, and you will lead the engagement to deliver it.

Who we are

TasPorts is a state-owned company responsible for a multi-port network and the Devonport Airport. We are a vertically integrated organisation providing a diverse range of port and marine operations and services around Tasmania. Our vision is to proudly connect people, products and solutions for the benefit of all Tasmanians.

With 99% of the State's freight moving through our multi-port system, TasPorts facilitates vital trade to enable industry partners and communities while ensuring the highest environmental and safety standards.

We are proud to be recognised as a WORK180 Endorsed Employer for All Women.

TasPorts | WORK180 Endorsed Employer
The role

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs, the Engagement & Partnerships Manager leads TasPorts' stakeholder, industry and community engagement. The relationships you build will shape how readily TasPorts can plan, invest and operate, at a time of significant investment in port infrastructure in Devonport, Hobart and Burnie.

This role owns both engagement strategy and its delivery. You will build the frameworks that guide how TasPorts engages, and you will lead the engagement itself, from community sessions and stakeholder briefings to industry relationships and partnership programs.

You will join a small, collaborative Corporate Affairs team, leading a small engagement team while staying close to the work. That means working closely with TasPorts' senior leadership, clear visibility of your impact, and the scope to shape a function as it is established.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Hobart. The role may involve intrastate travel and work outside normal operating hours.

Key Duties
Strategy and frameworks
  • Lead TasPorts' stakeholder and community engagement strategy in support of the organisation's strategic objectives
  • Establish how TasPorts measures and reports on stakeholder confidence and engagement outcomes
  • Lift the quality and consistency of community consultation across the organisation
Engagement and relationships
  • Lead and deliver engagement with communities and stakeholders across TasPorts' operations and capital program
  • Establish structured channels for ongoing community input
  • Identify and manage stakeholder issues early, giving leadership clear and practical advice
Industry, partnerships and government
  • Lead corporate engagement with industry bodies and peak organisations
  • Develop partnerships, sponsorships and community investment programs that deliver measurable community benefit
  • Support ministerial and parliamentary engagement and the management of government stakeholder matters
Delivery and leadership
  • Draft stakeholder communications and engagement materials tailored to audience, context and risk
  • Take engagement activities from planning through to delivery
  • Lead and develop a small engagement team, working closely with colleagues across Corporate Affairs and the wider business
About you

You are an experienced engagement professional who is as comfortable shaping strategy as you are delivering it. You can present an engagement framework to the executive team and draft a community update on the same day, and you see both as part of the job.

You build trust with people who do not always agree, and you keep relationships strong when issues are sensitive or contested. You have established or managed formal community engagement structures, and you know how to measure whether engagement is working.

You work well across organisational boundaries, holding clear accountability for your area while coordinating with colleagues who manage related relationships. And you write clearly, because so much of good engagement depends on getting the words right.

To be successful in this role, you will likely have:
  • Experience leading stakeholder and community engagement, partnerships or external relations in a complex environment
  • Experience developing and implementing engagement strategies, frameworks and reporting
  • Experience establishing or managing formal community engagement structures, such as advisory panels, liaison committees or reference groups
  • Strong relationship-building skills across community, industry and government stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and accurate messaging
  • Sound judgement in managing stakeholder risks and sensitive issues
  • People leadership, coaching or team development experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline and experience in a similar role
  • A current driver's licence
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Working with Vulnerable People registration and a Marine Security Identification Card (MSIC)

IAP2 certification and experience in infrastructure, transport, government or other regulated environments will be highly regarded.
