Job description

Transport for NSW – Sydney International Airport NSW

You enjoy solving problems in a complex environment to deliver the best outcomes for millions of people.

You're a critical thinker who thrives on exploring complex policy issues. Your expertise and advice could influence outcomes for the future of NSW.

In this role, you'll:

Join our Emergency Management team, where you will help shape the policies, strategies and plans that support Transport’s preparedness for and responses to emergencies and emerging risks across NSW.

Your work will contribute to the development, implementation, review and evaluation of emergency management policies and hazard-specific readiness plans. You will take a forward-thinking approach to complex issues, consider the broader operating environment and identify opportunities to strengthen Transport’s emergency management arrangements.

You will:
  • Develop and continuously improve emergency management policies, strategies and plans through research, evidence, critical analysis and review of emerging risks.
  • Provide clear, evidence-based advice, recommendations and briefing materials to support decision-making and preparedness outcomes.

About you

You are an analytical and strategic thinker who enjoys working through complex issues, identifying connections and developing practical, evidence-based recommendations. You use research and analysis to translate complex information into clear advice that supports effective planning and decision-making.

Your experience includes contributing to the policy lifecycle, from research and development through to implementation, review and evaluation. You understand how effective policy and strategic planning can strengthen emergency preparedness, support organisational priorities and respond to evolving risks and obligations.

You’re forward-thinking and curious, with the ability to anticipate emerging issues rather than focusing only on immediate concerns. Your judgement, attention to detail and ability to consider the broader context help you develop advice that is balanced, practical and strategically focused.

You are a confident communicator who can translate technical or complex information into clear advice for different audiences. Your collaborative approach enables you to build strong relationships, consider diverse perspectives and work effectively with stakeholders across government and other organisations.

You will bring tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent professional experience, along with existing knowledge of emergency management arrangements and the policy process.

You are willing to mobilise to respond to and support security, crisis and emergency incidents in a 24/7 operating environment, including on-call arrangements outside normal working hours.
