Job summary

Kingston City Council is seeking a competent emergency management professional to join our team. In this role, you will lead best practice emergency management and represent Kingston Council in the community.

Based in Cheltenham with occasional requirements to work at other locations or attend external meetings, this is a full-time permanent position offering hybrid work and a strong focus on resilience and collaboration with partners.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in emergency management, emergency services, disaster recovery, community resilience, or a related field.
• Previous experience working in, or closely with, emergency services.
• Experience supporting emergency response, relief and recovery activities.
• Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders, including emergency services, community organisations and government agencies.
• Well-developed communication and leadership skills, with experience supporting, guiding or developing others.
• Local government experience will be highly regarded.
• Previous experience as a MEMO, MRM or similar emergency management appointment will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and assistance for risk based strategic planning and actions that prepare Council and its community for emergencies.
• Supporting Council's emergency preparedness, response, relief and recovery arrangements.
• Coordinating the development, implementation and maintenance of Council’s emergency management plans.
• Coordinating Council's authorised Municipal Emergency Management Officers (MEMOs) and Municipal Recovery Managers (MRMs).
• Prepare reports on emergency management issues for council and senior leadership.
• Provide emergency management strategic planning advice to Council.
• Participating in emergency management rosters, including Duty MEMO responsibilities and after-hours emergency response when required.

• Flexible work options with up to two days per week working from home
• $113,526.86 - $127,181.94 per annum plus superannuation (dependent on experience)
• Based at Cheltenham with occasional requirements to work at other locations or attend external meetings.

About The Team

The Kingston Emergency Management team includes the Coordinator and Emergency Relief & Recovery Officer. Together they are responsible for Kingston City Council’s Emergency Management in partnership with other Council staff, emergency management agencies, and the broader community.

About The Role

Your Skills And Experience

• Previous experience working in, or closely with, emergency services

• Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders, including emergency services, community organisations and government agencies
• Well-developed communication and leadership skills, with experience supporting, guiding or developing others
• Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline together with several years relevant operational and management experience
• Local government experience will be highly regarded
• Previous experience as a MEMO, MRM or similar emergency management appointment will be highly regarded
