Job summary

AVT Australia invites a software engineer to join our Software Engineering Team, working on gyro-stabilised camera systems and their user interfaces. You will contribute across low-level firmware, drivers, image pipelines, GUIs, and R&D activities including verification and testing.

The role requires 2+ years in industry, proficiency in C/C++, embedded Linux, and experience with I2C/SPI/UART, drivers, and Linux kernel/device-tree.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechatronics / CS / Software Engineering / CSE / EE with software exposure.
  • 2+ years industry experience.
  • Experience with embedded Linux and driver development.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Write high quality C / C++ code for gyro-stabilised camera systems.
  • Develop low-level sensor drivers from datasheets and docs.
  • Assist in software lifecycle management from requirements to verification.
  • Improve existing code and integrate with new products.
  • Create user-friendly GUIs and support R&D, production, and users.
  • Perform field testing to improve performance and fix issues.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines to optimise design outcomes.
  • Mentor and review peers to grow technical skills.

About the role:

You will join the Software Engineering Team where you will work on gyro-stabilised camera systems and their user interfacing software. You will be involved in a wide range of key technology areas ranging from low level firmware and driver development, video and image processing pipelines, graphical user interfaces, and various R&D activities including verification, validation and testing.

Responsibilities:
  • Writing high quality and reusable code in C / C++.
  • Develop low-level sensor drivers by analysing technical documentation and datasheets.
  • Assist in managing the software lifecyle of products, from requirement development to verification.
  • Continuous improvement of existing code and making existing software systems work with new products.
  • Generating easy to use GUIs to support R&D activities, production, and users of our products.
  • Perform field testing of existing and new features to improve performance and fix issues.
  • Work closely with all engineering disciplines to ensure the best possible design outcomes are realised.
  • Mentoring and reviewing work of others to help them grow in their technical skills and understanding.
  • Translate user requirements into software system specifications.
  • Create clear documentation on software designs and APIs.
  • Facilitate transfer of designs from R&D to production.
Essential qualifications, experience, and skills:
  • Degree qualification in Mechatronics / Computer Science / Software Engineering / Computer Systems Engineering / Electrical Engineering course with significant software exposure.
  • 2+ years experience in industry.
  • Experience working with embedded Linux.
  • Proficient with C, C++.
  • Experience programming and debugging embedded microcontroller/microprocessor targets.
  • Familiarity with low level communication protocols like I2C, SPI and UART.
  • Experience with source code revision control system.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Drive for excellence in engineering.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Focus on quality.
  • High degree of self-organisation.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business requirements.
  • Good team player.
  • Experience developing Linux kernel drivers and device tree.
  • Experience working with bootloaders.
  • Experience with Yocto, Buildroot or ZephyrOS.
  • Experience reviewing electrical schematics from an embedded software perspective.
  • Experience in aerospace, defence or other high-reliability engineering environment.
