Job summary

Downer Professional Services seeks an Electronic Warfare and Sensors Engineer to assure design and integration of advanced combat system technologies for Defence programs. You will work with Defence stakeholders and industry partners to progress through design reviews and testing milestones.

The role focuses on EW, radar and sensor systems engineering, with emphasis on verification, risk management and technical reporting to support a maritime capability program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/electronic/communications engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience with electronic warfare, radar or sensor systems engineering.
  • Knowledge of RF/microwave systems, radar principles and electronic warfare fundamentals.
  • Understanding of EMC/E3 principles within complex integrated platforms.
  • Experience with requirements management, traceability and verification activities.
  • Strong analytical, stakeholder engagement and technical reporting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent design assurance for electronic warfare and sensor systems.

Job description

Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia's future.


As an Electronic Warfare and Sensors Engineer, you will play a key role in assuring the design and integration of advanced combat system technologies that strengthen Australia's naval defence capability. Working alongside Defence stakeholders, global industry partners and specialist engineering teams, you'll contribute to the modernisation combat System Upgrade.


This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of electronic warfare, radar and sensor technologies while supporting capability outcomes critical to Australia's national security.


As an Electronic Warfare and Sensors Engineer, you will provide independent design assurance support across the electronic warfare and sensor systems that form part of Combat System Upgrade. You will review complex engineering designs, assess system performance, support integration activities and ensure technical solutions meet Defence requirements before progressing through key design reviews and testing milestones.


Working closely with Defence, prime contractors and multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will help manage technical risks, verify requirements compliance and contribute to the successful delivery of a highly complex maritime capability program.


This role offers exposure to advanced naval combat systems, cutting-edge Defence technologies and senior stakeholders across Defence and industry, while providing opportunities for professional growth within a leading Defence consulting business.


About the Program

Working within the Maritime Business Unit, you will contribute to the enhancement of Australia's air and missile defence capability through modernisation of the Royal Australian Navy's. The program is delivered in partnership with the Commonwealth, and partners, supporting the integration of advanced radar, electronic warfare and combat management capabilities.

  • Naval, Defence or complex mission-critical environments

What You'll Bring

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronic, Communications Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience with electronic warfare, radar or sensor systems engineering
  • Knowledge of RF/microwave systems, radar principles and electronic warfare fundamentals
  • Understanding of EMC/E3 principles within complex integrated platforms
  • Experience with requirements management, traceability and verification activities
  • Strong analytical, stakeholder engagement and technical reporting skills

Desirable

  • Experience supporting Defence maritime or naval capability programs
  • Experience conducting independent design assurance, verification and validation activities
  • Understanding of ASDEFCON engineering governance processes

Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
