Job summary

The University of Sydney invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Electrochemical Engineering within the Electrochemical Engineering Lab led by Dr Fengwang Li. The role focuses on developing and evaluating electrochemical reactors and their supporting systems for sustainable chemical production and energy conversion.

Qualifications

• PhD in Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline (or near completion).
• Hands-on experience with electrolysers or fuel cells, including device assembly and testing.
• Ability to design electrochemical devices or experimental hardware using CAD.
• Experience in chemical process design for experimental or prototype systems.
• Strong understanding of electrochemical performance and transport processes.
• Independent planning and execution of experimental research with rigorous records.
• Strong written and verbal communication demonstrated by publications or reports.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with attention to safety and IP.

Responsibilities

• Design, assemble and improve electrochemical cells and reactor prototypes with electrodes, membranes and sealing systems.
• Develop, commission and operate experimental test systems integrating devices with fluid handling and data acquisition.
• Plan and conduct electrochemical experiments to evaluate performance and durability and implement improvements.
• Apply chemical process engineering principles to develop process configurations and diagrams.
• Support scale-up and system integration addressing flow, heat, mass transfer and reproducibility.
• Translate concepts into CAD models and drawings; coordinate fabrication and assembly.
• Analyze data, maintain reproducible records and prepare technical reports and publications.
• Collaborate with colleagues and mentors, supporting training, risk assessments and safe lab practices.
