Job summary

Journey Beyond is seeking a qualified electrical tradesperson to support our Rail Division. You will maintain electrical and mechanical systems across The Ghan, Indian Pacific, Great Southern and The Overland, and manage power generation units for optimal efficiency.

This role is physically demanding and traverses multiple trains, including duties at Adelaide Parklands Terminal. A current electrical trade qualification and Senior First Aid are required, with safe working qualifications or

• Current electrical trade qualification and recognised safety trainings are required.
• Experience with electrical, air-conditioning and mechanical systems desirable.
• Willingness to obtain any missing safe working qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe operation of electrical and mechanical systems on trains.
• Manage and maintain power generation units for optimum efficiency.
• Conduct regular patrols and inspections of trains at various locations.
• Record maintenance and repair work and report findings to management.
• Submit detailed trip reports to the manager.
• Perform duties at Adelaide Parklands Terminal when required.

About You

The successful applicant will require a current and recognised trade qualification as an electrical trades-person, senior first aid certificate and safe working qualifications or be willing to obtain safe working qualifications. Experience across various maintenance activities is highly desirable, with knowledge and experience of power generation, electrical, air-conditioning systems and mechanical systems. The successful applicant will be an effective team player amongst the team, collaborating and communicating effectively to ensure safe and effective operation and maintenance is carried out over the train.

About The Role

This position will require working across all of our trains, The Ghan, Indian Pacific, Great Southern, Vintage Rail Journeys and Overland for up to 7 days at a time, and duties will include but are not limited to ensuring the safe and effective operation of all electrical and mechanical systems on train, managing power generational units and inspection of trains at various locations. This position is physically demanding and will require you to work on your feet for long periods of time and in confined spaces.
Key responsibilities will include:

• Ensure the effective and safe operation of all electrical and mechanical systems and components on the trains.
• Manage and maintain the power generation units, to ensure optimum operational efficiency.
• Conduct regular patrols of the train to monitor equipment.
• Record all maintenance and repair work performed, and follow up on repairs that required further action.
• Submit detailed trip report to manager.
• Perform inspections of train at various locations.
• Perform duties at the Adelaide Parklands Terminal where required.
