Job summary

Sydney Trains is seeking a skilled Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic Engineer to join the Fleet Maintenance team at Clyde Depot (Auburn). You will develop and improve technical standards for electrical systems contributing to safe, on-time train operations.

The role requires extensive investigative capability, strong reporting, and collaboration with Operations, Maintenance staff, and contractors to guarantee safe maintenance and operation of the Sydney and NSW Trains passenger fleet.

Qualifications

• Electrical, electronic or mechatronic engineering degree with extensive experience.
• Ability to conduct detailed investigations and root cause analysis.
• Knowledge of relevant Australian and International Standards.
• Experience in rolling stock engineering preferred.
• Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of our Fleet Maintenance team developing and improving technical standards related to electrical systems that contribute to running our trains safely and on time.
• Provide advice and support for Operations and Maintenance staff and Contractors to ensure safe and effective maintenance and operation of the Sydney and NSW Trains passenger fleet.
• Provide support developing engineering modifications of trials, assisting in investigations for occurrences out on track and conducting assurance audits ensure quality of work has been met.
• Develop relationships across our Engineering System Integrity, Rollingstock and Network Maintenance branches.
• Prepare, monitor and update the procedures and standards associated with the servicing, repair and maintenance of Sydney and NSW Trains Passenger Rolling Stock

This is a Temporary Fixed Term - Full Time position based out of the Clyde Depot in Auburn until 31st January 2028.

About You

• Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering Degree with extensive experience
• Ability to conduct detailed investigations and root cause analysis and provide clear and decisive recommendations and written reports
• Ability to provide engineering and project management support to diverse groups within Sydney and NSW Trains
• Knowledge of relevant Australian and International Standards
• Experience in rolling stock engineering with proven knowledge preferred
• Knowledge and experience in using Lean Six Sigma

You will have a dedicated work ethic and positive attitude. Essentially, you don’t shy away from doing hard work or making difficult decisions. Some experience in Rolling Stock engineering and Electrical systems will serve you well to understand our complex environment. Most importantly, you are a team player who is able to communicate effectively with stakeholders to approach various challenges as they arise.

This hybrid site based role requires you to work from our Clyde Hub (Auburn) for 2 days, Parramatta for 1 day and other Depots as required each week.
