Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal in Gladstone, QLD, is seeking an experienced Electrical Reliability Engineer to join the Engineering team. This permanent full-time residential role focuses on ensuring reliable, safe operation of automated terminal assets and systems.

The role reports to the Engineering Lead and demands strong electrical reliability capability, heavy industry exposure, and collaboration across operations, maintenance, and contractors in a highly automated environment.

Gladstone, Queensland | Permanent Full-Time | Residential Role

Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal, WICET, is a world-class, industry-owned and privately funded terminal located at the Port of Gladstone. This modern, state-of-the-art terminal was built to expand the region’s coal export capacity, becoming operational in 2016. WICET is a $4 billion investment which operates with a high degree of automation and is committed to operating in a safe, environmentally friendly and socially responsible manner.

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Electrical Reliability Engineer to join our Engineering team at the WICET Terminal in Gladstone. This is a permanent full-time residential role supporting the safe, reliable and cost-effective operation of WICET’s automated terminal assets and systems.

Reporting to the Engineering Lead, this role provides technical expertise and governance across electrical reliability, electrical safety, maintenance improvement, engineering standards and long-term asset performance. The role will suit an experienced electrical engineer or electrical professional with strong heavy industry experience, practical reliability capability and the ability to work collaboratively across operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors and specialist service providers.

About the role

As the Electrical Reliability Engineer, you will play a key role in improving the reliability, safety and performance of WICET’s electrical assets and systems. You will provide practical technical support across site electrical works, reliability improvement, electrical safety, engineering standards, contractor performance and compliance.

Key responsibilities include:

Provide electrical reliability and technical engineering support across WICET’s terminal assets.

Support electrical safety governance, including high voltage access, isolation and site electrical control requirements.

Maintain and apply electrical engineering standards, specifications and compliance requirements.

Work with maintenance, operations and contractors to resolve electrical issues and improve asset performance.

Identify reliability improvements, support electrical projects and contribute to long-term asset planning.

Review technical scopes, contractor deliverables and supplier performance to support safe and reliable outcomes.

Provide practical engineering advice and clear reporting to internal and external stakeholders.

Lead by example in safety, risk management, compliance and WICET’s values.

What you will bring to the role

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong electrical reliability capability, practical heavy industry experience and the ability to work effectively in a highly automated operating environment.

Electrical trade with associate diploma or an Engineering Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas competency.

Experience in heavy industry, mining, ports, materials handling or a comparable operating environment.

Experience working in, or closely with, electrical person-in-control requirements or similar site electrical governance responsibilities.

Strong understanding of electrical safety, risk management and compliance obligations.

Experience with high voltage systems, isolation processes and electrical maintenance practices.

Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards, technical specifications and procedures.

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think analytically, conceptually and practically.

Sound communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Intermediate capability with Microsoft Office and engineering, maintenance or document management systems.

Preferred requirements:

Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland, RPEQ, or eligibility and willingness to obtain RPEQ registration.

Experience in bulk materials handling, port operations, coal terminals, mining infrastructure or other automated industrial facilities.

Experience with reliability improvement, defect elimination, root cause analysis, maintenance strategy or asset lifecycle planning.

Experience reviewing technical scopes, tender documentation, engineering designs or contractor deliverables.

Experience working with control-system-based plant, instrumentation and integrated operational systems.
