Job summary

Solarig is seeking an Electrical Engineering Technician to join our team in Australia. The role focuses on the safe operation and maintenance of solar farm electrical systems, with opportunities for career growth in a rapidly expanding renewables sector.

Responsibilities include inspecting and maintaining inverters, transformers and switchgear, monitoring SCADA data, and supporting commissioning and outages. A relevant electrical qualification and hands-on experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in operation and maintenance of electrical systems, preferably in utility-scale solar farms or renewable facilities.
  • Knowledge of inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, metering, cabling and SCADA systems.
  • Experience in electrical testing, fault finding, preventive maintenance and technical reporting.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and manuals.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety, isolation, lock-out/tag-out and WHS requirements.

  • Assist Engineers with electrical installations, modifications and plant-performance improvements.
  • Test, calibrate, modify and repair electrical equipment and control systems.
  • Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, manuals and equipment specifications.
  • Assist with commissioning, outages, switching activities and return-to-service testing with required authorisations.
  • Prepare technical reports, test results and maintenance records.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical regulations and WHS procedures.

About the Role:

As an Electrical Engineering Technician with Solarig, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our solar farm. This full-time role offers the chance to work in a collaborative, safety-focused environment, with excellent career growth potential in the rapidly expanding solar industry.

  • Contract: Full time, 38 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday

  • Salary: this position's salary range is $97,000 - $100,000 gross per year + superannuation

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Inspect, test and diagnose electrical systems and equipment across utility-scale solar farms.
  • Monitor plant performance through SCADA systems and analyse technical and operational data.
  • Perform planned, preventive and corrective maintenance on inverters, transformers, switchgear, cabling, metering and protection systems.
  • Identify electrical faults and assist with root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Assist Electrical Engineers and Engineering Technologists with electrical installations, modifications and plant-performance improvements.
  • Test, calibrate, modify and repair electrical equipment and control systems.
  • Interpret electrical drawings, schematics, technical manuals and equipment specifications.
  • Assist with commissioning, outages, switching activities and return-to-service testing, subject to the required authorisations.
  • Prepare technical reports, test results, maintenance records and material estimates.
  • Ensure all work complies with electrical regulations, WHS requirements and company HSEQ procedures.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking a reliable, safety-focused Electrical Engineering Technician who can take initiative and work both independently and as part of a team. Candidate Requirements:

  • Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical systems, preferably within utility-scale solar farms or renewable energy facilities.
  • Knowledge of inverters, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, metering, cabling and SCADA systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in electrical testing, fault finding, preventive maintenance and technical reporting.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical manuals.
  • Good understanding of electrical safety, isolation, lock-out/tag-out and WHS requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to work at remote solar-farm locations and travel when required.
  • Relevant Australian electrical licence or eligibility to obtain one where the position involves licensed electrical work.
