Qualifications

• Bachelor-level or diploma in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 1 year relevant industry experience.
• Experience with electrical testing, inspections, installations or maintenance preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation and review of electrical installation drawings and circuit diagrams.
• Support assessment and layout of switchboards, cabling, lighting circuits and equipment.
• Conduct tests, collect data and prepare calculations and charts documenting performance.
• Inspect installations against technical specs and safety requirements.
• Assist with installation, testing, calibration, modification and repair of electrical systems.
• Investigate faults, analyze results and suggest rectification measures.

HSQ Electrical is a Melbourne-based electrical contracting business providing residential and commercial electrical installations, maintenance and safety inspection services. With a growing range of projects across commercial premises, manufacturing facilities, warehouses and residential properties, we are expanding our team and seeking a skilled Electrical Engineering Technician to support our technical operations and project delivery.

About the role

The successful applicant will assist with the technical assessment, testing, inspection and maintenance of electrical systems and installations, supporting the delivery of safe, reliable and compliant electrical solutions across residential and commercial projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and review of electrical installation drawings, circuit diagrams, technical plans and project documentation.
• Support the technical assessment and layout of electrical installations, switchboards, cabling systems, lighting circuits and associated electrical equipment.
• Conduct electrical system tests, collect technical data and prepare calculations, charts and tabulations to document system performance.
• Inspect electrical installations, equipment and completed works against technical specifications, applicable standards and safety requirements.
• Assist with the installation, testing, calibration, modification and repair of electrical equipment and systems in accordance with approved procedures.
• Investigate electrical system faults, analyse test results and assist in identifying appropriate technical rectification measures.
• Assist in estimating electrical materials, equipment quantities and associated costs for residential and commercial projects.
• Support scheduled maintenance programs by monitoring equipment performance, recording inspection findings and documenting maintenance requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, test records and compliance documentation, maintaining accurate records of inspections, testing and rectification work.
• Assist with technical evaluations and improvement initiatives relating to electrical system reliability, energy efficiency, power-factor performance and operational safety.

About you

Relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or a related discipline.

At least 1 year relevant experience in the industry.

Experience in electrical testing, technical inspections, electrical installations or maintenance within residential or commercial environments will be highly regarded.

Sound technical knowledge and the ability to interpret electrical drawings and specifications.

Strong analytical skills and a commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
