Job summary

Solar Start Pty Ltd in Byron Bay is seeking an Electrical Engineering Draftsperson to join our office-based technical team. This full-time role prepares design drawings and technical documentation for solar PV and battery installations across NSW, from site assessment to sign-off by the Technical Lead.

You will produce PV layouts, single-line diagrams, and sizing calculations in line with AS/NZS standards, using Pylon/OpenSolar or CAD tools, with keen attention to accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Advanced Diploma or degree in engineering or related field.
• At least 1 year of experience in solar PV and/or battery system design.
• Working knowledge of AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5033 and AS/NZS 5139.
• Experience with Pylon, OpenSolar or similar solar design software.
• Strong attention to detail and able to produce accurate technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare PV layouts, single-line diagrams and design documentation for solar PV and battery installations.
• Ensure all designs and drawings comply with current industry standards, regulations, and requirements.
• Maintain and update drawing registers, revision controls and templates to ensure consistency across all projects.
• Complete system sizing, string design and cable sizing calculations to AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5033 and AS/NZS 5139.
• Carry out virtual site assessments of switchboards, roofs and battery install locations.
• Prepare grid connection applications to DNSPs, including export limits and protection settings.
• Check sales quotes and proposals for technical feasibility and compliance.
• Estimate material quantities and prepare scope of works documents for each installation.
• Inspect completed installations for compliance with the design and relevant standards.

Electrical Engineering Draftsperson – Solar PV & BESS

Solar Start is looking for an Electrical Engineering Draftsperson to join our office-based technical team in Byron Bay. This is a full-time, permanent role preparing the design drawings and technical documentation for solar PV and battery (BESS) installations across NSW. You'll take each job from site assessment through to a compliant, install‑ready design package, with every design reviewed and signed off by our Technical Lead.

Key responsibilities

Prepare PV layouts, single-line diagrams and design documentation for solar PV and battery installations

Ensure all designs and drawings comply with current industry standards, regulations, and requirements

About you
